Master Craftsman Series Laser Cut Wood Kit

The N Scale Architect’s Master Craftsman SeriesÔ line of wood kits features the same high quality instructions, attention to detail, and creative designs of our Classic Line Structures Ô while providing the convenience and accuracy of laser cut components. These components are cut from durable lamented wood sheets that are thicker and more warp-resistant than those found in most other laser cut kits. These kits also feature window and door castings from Grandt Line Products, which are known for their fine detail and ease of installation, custom designed detail parts from P.D. Marsh, and fine scale corrugated aluminum siding from Builders In Scale.

The 'Williamstown Coal' kit is now available in N-Scale and in HO.  This kit is based on a pair of retail coal structures that still stand in Williamstown, Massachusetts.  Though the exact date of their construction is unknown, we estimate that they were originally built in the late 1800’s or early 1900’s when coal was the primary source of fuel for heating homes and powering businesses.  These coal retailers were served by the Boston & Maine Railroad and remained operational through at least the 1950’s.  Though they are based on specific prototypes, their design is typical of retail coal structures that once were present in just about every town along the railroads in the northern half of the United States

The N-Scale model measures approximately 5"(L) x 3 1/2"(W) x 4"(H), HO is 10"(L) x 7"(W) x 8"(H), and  Z is 3 3/4"(L) x 2 1/2"(W) x 3"(H).  Each kit includes the detail parts shown in the photos, additional details are available below. .

BRANCHVILLE STATION

As the second installment in our new Railway Heritage Models line of HO laser-cut kits, The N Scale Architect proudly announces Branchville Station.  This  kit is based on the station that once stood at the terminus of the Delaware Lackawanna & Western’s Sussex Branch in Branchville, New Jersey.  It was originally built by the Sussex Railroad in 1869 and was unfortunately razed in 1994 after a heavy snow collapsed its roof.  This kit is also available in N-Scale as part of our Journeyman Series.  Both the N & HO Scale versions of the Branchville Station kit are now available.  The N Scale version measures 5½"(L) X 2¾"(W) X 1¾"(H) with a retail price of $69.95 (Model BSN002).

ALTO TOWER

The ALTO Tower kit is based on the ALTO interlocking tower that still stands along the Norfolk & Southern mainline in Altoona, Pennsylvania. It was originally built in the 1880s by the Pennsylvania Railroad as part of their sprawling yard complex. Through the Penn Central and Conrail years this tower underwent several "modernization" efforts. We have restored this tower close to its original condition for the purposes of preserving it in kit form.  Recent photos for those modelers wishing to represent the modern era will be included with the instructions as well as a painting guide based on the standard Pennsy color scheme.   The N version retails for $69.95 (Model ATN001) and measures 5 1/2 "L X 2 3/4" W X 1 3/4" H.

Lackawanna Coal Company

We are proud to announce our latest laser-cut wood kit, the Lackawanna Coal Company.  Like our other laser-cut wood kits, it feature comprehensive instructions with a complete set of actual-size elevation and floor plan drawings complimented by step-by-step text, tips & techniques and assembly photos.  It is cut from micro-plywood rather than milled basswood sheets for improved durability and resistance to warping and features a system of tabs & slots and etched positional lines that speed assembly.  Also included in this kit are corrugated aluminum roofing, full-color roof paper and printed glazing with mullion details.

The prototypes that inspired the Lackawanna Coal Company kit were located in the Anthracite Coal Region of Northeastern Pennsylvania. In these immense structures, know as
"breakers" or "collieries", the hard shiny anthracite coal was brought from a mine shaft or drift and then washed & broken into sizes usable for home heating & industrial processes.  Breakers of the size and type represented in this kit were typically built in the 1930's as a means to consolidate the production of several smaller older processing plants and many of them were still operational into the 1970's. At their peak, there were hundreds of these structures in operation and the several thousand employees that worked in them could process as much as 12,500 tons of coal in a single day. Coal was brought to the breakers for processing from the surrounding mines via extensive mine railroads and conveyors that could literally stretch for miles.

The Lackawanna Coal Company kit (Model: LCC504) covers an area of 10"(L) X 11"(W) X 6 ½"(H) and retails for $149.95.

Don't Forget to Detail your Coal Company...

Our NEW M-TRAK product line provides an easy way to create a rail link to the mines using our NEW Mine Locomotive & 4-Ton Mine Cars which are also available separately. M-TRAK is an easy-to-install 2' 6" gauge mine track system that includes turnout, curved, straight & flexible track sections with laser-cut wood ties and metal rails.

Rode-A-Way Transfer Company

Retail $59.95

 Model RTC053

The Rode-A-Way Transfer Company is designed with the flexibility to support rail-to-trailer, trailer-to-trailer or rail-to-rail trans-loading operations. There are two(2) rail loading platforms included in this kit that can be used on either side of the model. With these platforms, the modeler can choose to have tracks on both sides, one side or no sides (trailer-to-trailer transfer) of this structure. Instead of these platforms, the modeler can use the "rubber bumpers" also included in this kit to support trailer loading (again, on either side of the model).

A full set of elevation drawings and laser plate maps are included with the step-by-step instructions included with this kit. All detail parts and figures shown in the attached photo are included.  The prototype for this model was built in 1950's and is still in use today by the "Roadway" Trucking Company. If there is enough interest, we will be offering an expansion kit to allow for larger loading facilities. This kit has a suggested retail price of $59.95 and the completed model measures 4 1/2" x 7".  Deluxe Innovations is producing a limited edition trailer to go along with this kit.  Further detail on this trailer can be obtained from Deluxe Innovations or the N Scale Architect.
